We’re changing Hosters in early 2008

Following the recent dofus extensions, the growing number of players connecting to our game, and especially in order to improve our services, Ankama decided to change hosters.
After several years working with the same hoster, we are offering our service a better and safer solution. Ankama has grown and now wishes to work with market leaders capable of meeting our requirements and that of our players. Therefore, we finally decided to entrust our websites and game servers with an international hoster, renowned for it efficiency and for its great experience in hosting massively multiplayer online video games.dofus
As soon as the change will take effect, we will be able to offer you quicker and more stable services. In-game lags will be considerably reduced, our websites will benefit from a better browsing quality, and we will be able to host more players simultaneously without the performances being affected.

Dinner Party of the Pumpkin King (Rushu)

Among the pumpkins, there is one who is revered as the master of all

olantewns, a lord over all their kind. He lives in the depths of the

Evil Forest, carefully hiding away from the prying eyes of those who

might make him into a pie. And lo, these many years he has waited,

hungering, desiring a feast to sate the pitiless pangs of emptiness

gnawing on him day and night.dofusIn spite of his hunger, he

grew. And grew. And continued to grow. Until the day Beast walked

out across the World of the 12 dragging his curse behind him like an

endless cloak cut from fabric of midnight, covering the land. It was

then, as the power of Evil flooded through his roots, that the King

knew he would finally taste the finer things in life. Sunlight. New

soil. Fresh blood.Especially the fresh blood.dofus After sending out his pumpkin

followers and children into the world to make the way ready for him,

the Pumpkin King prepared to break out of the dark maze. But some

alert adventurers noticed the disturbance and plunged into the

forest to stop the king. And they did try. CaptainJackSparrow and

NairwickSH were among the first to join the battle. IronCaf and Miju

provided additional support while Cleft kept the fighters alive. Re

-energized by his appetizer, the manic melon charged the boundaries

of the forest, and smashed his way to freedom with the fighters

right on his tail. The first strange thing that the King encountered

was an odd stone arc that crackled with power. Somehow, when he

touched it, he found himself in the middle of a field full of food!

Running, moving food, wearing odd hats and capes, some of them even

carrying their own long knives! The King felt a little faint with

hunger at the sight of such a meal. Some of the food named Limewire

challenged the king to a fight! Happily, the King rang the dinner

bell and charged in! dofusThe

meal that followed was epic. Yakul and Dekatron, Curiosaa and

Ellabella, Pika- and Seagate, all of these and more tumbled into the

King's waiting stomach. Fortunately, their fall was cushioned by

Unloved and IllClawYoreEyesOut. All was not lost, however. In all

this grand field of food, some were more agile than the hor d'overs

. KingSadida, Tarquin-Mitzi, Ellyos, and Grandpower managed to

pummel the king away from the table by sheer force!Feeling over-

stuffed and sluggish, the King gathered the last of his waning

forces and assigned some of his lieutenants to follow the rest of

the prospective food around and try to get the King some take-out

for later. There were wins and losses on both sides, but the side of

good was resolute, and it looked like the adventurers might be

smashing pumpkins. Until the King, driven by his hunger, took a bite

out of one of the fighters. And with that first taste - that

initial, tentative nibble, the tide of battle turned. The feast was

Not so scary, but I'm still a noob coward

Okay, so I've decided to make at least two trips to the Wilderness, "hunting", every day, so I can get used to this. I'm really a non-player-killer type of player, and have been that way for a long time, so it's tough to break the old "ah, I'll just train" habit.So, today I've already gone out a couple of times, and now I'm on my third journey out. My first two journies didn't work out so well, the first one I was actually so STUPID as to attack a group of three mages (I was playing mage) ... duh. Then to top it off, when I walked away they didn't even follow, but I teleported out of there just the same! runescape. The second time I stayed out longer, but when I ran across someone wearing metal armor, not only was I too close and he came over to attack me with his weapon rather quickly, but I had forgotten to recharge my prayer and didn't have a potion! Double bleah....My third journey out just ended... some guy was all dressed in metal, but by the time I attacked him he had changed to his ranger outfit... :( And since I was in 25 Wildy, I had to run through some bush to get away to be able to teleport. I don't want to get into fights that take forever, I want to attack metal-clad folk with my lvl 59 Fire Blast!I am in a clan, but haven't gone out with any of my clanmates killing yet. Perhaps I will do that soon and post the results!runescape

Using Castle Wars to brush up on PK skills

I tried the runescape Castle War minigame for the first time this weekend. I've always had some Rings of Duelling which I knew could teleport me there, but I just never tried it out until recently.I had a lot of fun in this online simulation of "capture the flag", done with my member runescape character. There were lots of other players on at the same time and Team Zamorak got whooped just as often as Team Saradomin in the 10 or so games I've played so far.In Castle Wars, you're on one or the other of the two teams (Zamorak and Saradomin) and your team's goal is to capture the other team's flag and bring it back to where your flag is, so you can "score 1" for the team. You're playing against other players and all the zones are multi-combat.The big thing about Castle Wars compared to regular Wilderness PKing is that you don't lose your inventory nor equipment when you die. Yes, if you're a mage or a ranger, you can come out with less runes or arrows than you went in with, but if you're a fighter, you won't lose your prize possessions and thus can fight with them on.Another bonus of Castle Wars vs the Wilderness is that the minigame provides "bandages" which are used for healing. You don't have to bring any food to heal you, although you're welcome to bring potions to improve your performance.Personally, my goal was to defend our castle from intruders. I took a defensive stance the first few times I played, basically hanging back in our own castle, attacking intruders, trying to reduce the chances of the enemy getting our flag or if they get it, reducing their chances of getting away and back to their own castle.Melee is the first and easiest thing to go into Runescape Castle Wars as, but there is certainly a place for Mages and Rangers in defending your castle and your flag. As I got more comfortable in the game, I brought 1000 iron arrows in with my full black dragonhide and magic shortbow, and I ranged attackers from afar when it was convenient, but then switched into my melee gear when that worked out better, or when I was getting bored waiting for the enemy to come by our castle.I had a complete blast playing the Runescape Castle War minigame, and it let me test my varying skills against people of different levels and specialties which was cool too. It was great to see how hard certain types of weapons hit on me as well - that abby whip usually doesn't do me much damage, I guess my defense must be okay!At the end of the 10 games, I had enough tickets to buy the red-and-blue (yuck) med helm and pl8 body, and I was up to about 8 kills in a game. I'd usually get killed 3-4 times myself, but I was good at surviving, hanging on, distracting the enemy and switching between Ranger and Melee when they weren't expecting it!runescape

Bots and real-world trading

Over the last couple of weeks we've had a sudden increase in reports of people apparently using 'bots' to play the game automatically (which is in breach of Rule 7). Firstly, we want to let all our honest players (and that's the vast majority of you) know that we are aware of this problem, and that we are taking immediate steps to tackle it. We currently ban about 8000 accounts every week for trying this sort of cheating, and for a long time that kept things under control. Things have clearly moved on, however, and that is no longer enough, so we are in the process of upgrading our detection and prevention systems. We also have logs of historical activity, so we'll be able to make sure that dishonesty doesn't pay. Please bear with us while we sort it out! There are also ways you can help us, so please read on. What's happening is more complex than it first seems. What's actually going on is that the VAST majority of the level-3 characters you see playing the game repetitively and not talking to anyone, are actually people from countries such as China and Korea, who are trying to collect RuneScape gold to sell for real world money (obviously against the rules). Some of them aren't even using bots, they are just playing the game very repetitively with a single-minded purpose to collect gold. These people have no interest in playing the game properly, and therefore don't care if they get banned. The final effect is the same, though – it spoils the game for everyone else.We can (and do) ban them - including using IP bans - but they still find ways to make accounts. We seized 6 billion in RuneScape gold by banning real-world traders last week! Unfortunately, these people are obliged to work such long hours and are paid such low wages that if even a tiny fraction of gold makes it to the market, those running the sweatshops will be encouraged to continue. This is why we are now further increasing our efforts.runescape So how to stop it? The answer is clearly to tackle the black market. As long as there is the potential to make money, they won't stop trying, even though it damages the game for everyone else. Of course, if nobody spent real world money on runescape money these unwelcome groups would just switch to a different game.Therefore, we are going to be cracking down HARD on people who breach Rule 12 (no real world trading). We can catch people who break this rule, because we have a sophisticated trade monitoring system and we can trace suspicious activity all the way back to the original bot accounts.If you break Rule 12 and buy runescape money you are directly funding this problem. You are funding underground gangs who run Chinese sweatshops, and creating the black market which causes this botting problem. Therefore, this rule will now be enforced as a priority, with no second chances. If you break Rule 12 and we catch you, then you will not only lose the money you spent, but also your entire account. Obviously, we will always be careful to make sure nobody is banned in error.Finally, we have noticed some 3rd party sites, which call themselves 'fansites', but then advertise black market trading sites. This will no longer be tolerated. By running such advertising these sites are directly supporting these gangs, and are thus causing the botting problems they then complain about! We don't consider sites that encourage our players to break the rules and endanger their own users to be 'fansites'. (i.e. They're advertising things to their users, which, if the advertising works, will serve to get their users banned!) We consider them cheat sites, and they will be treated accordingly. True fans of the game don’t encourage cheating!This brings us to the last point. HOW YOU CAN HELP! You can help us by: Using the in-game 'report abuse' facility to tell us about players you see breaking rule 7. Of course we're not going to ban anyone just on the basis of a player report and will always thoroughly check them ourselves, too - but such reports still help us know who we should be checking up on.Boycott any corrupt 'fansites' which advertise runescape money for sale. There are plenty of genuine fansites out there who don't support cheating in this way, and we fully support those sites. Use those ones instead. Also, don't advertise, link to, or talk about any of these corrupt fansites. Obviously, if they stop supporting cheating, you can start using them again.Under absolutely no circumstances buy RuneScape gold/items for real money! Doing so causes this whole problem, and we'll ban you if we catch you doing it. The number of honest players still far, far outweighs the tiny minority causing trouble. Now we’re on the case you can be sure we’ll have this sorted out asap.
